It Doesn’t Happen by Accident

Read: Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Reflect:

Good choices. Bad choices. Our choices matter.A few weeks ago I saw this quote from C.S. Lewis –

“It does not matter how small the sins are provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and out into nothing.”

Most of us are not actively involved in the “big” sins, but are we being “conformed to this world” by the little things? Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, the culture around us influences our thoughts and our view of the world. Lttle by little. Step by step.

Notice that Paul is convinced there is another option. “But be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Remember, we make choices, so the question is – am I being conformed or transformed?

Respond:

Answering the question above is the first step and if transformation is your choice, there may be some changes that are in order. For me, the choice for transformation requires a change in my media habits. Turn off the talk radio. Limit my time in front of the computer. Spend more time listening and reading things that renew my mind.

What about you?  What will you do to break the mold of conformity?
